Awarded Best of Zola
Sandy Soohoo is a dream. She is extremely talented and creative, knowledgeable about the industry, realistic about the challenges, reliable and responsive- all while being a joyous energy and pleasure to be around. For those reasons, I couldn't have imagined a better photographer for our wedding - or person to be by my side throughout that entire day and evening. She works with a variety of mediums (lens, cameras, flash/no flash) to obtain a variety of styles for the photos, which all turned out unique and fully capturing different "perspectives" of the event - and most importantly, capturing the true essence of the joy and outward and inner beauty of the wedding. The photos turned out beautiful, have this journalistic yet ethereal feel- an artistic quality which I believe is a rare skill. I'm so thankful for having worked with Sandy!!

Shutter & Sound

5.0

  • Fine art style
  • Starts at $2,600
  • Serves New York, NY

Hi! Courtney here (that's me on the left!). Shutter and Sound is the brainchild of renowned wedding videographer Ryan Geldermann. Ryan began his wedding videography career in 2010 in Los Angeles and quickly became recognized as one of the top videographers in the U.S.. After relocating to DC and still receiving countless inquiries from all corners of the country, Ryan decided to recruit and train a few talented friends so he could continue offering the quality wedding videography he’s known for in SoCal and eventually over 10 cities. Shutter and Sound is a very small group of filmmakers dedicated to turning your big day into a work of art.

My husband and I loved working with Shutter and Sound for our wedding!! They went above and beyond when capturing our venue and all the special moments throughout our wedding day. The videographers were very personable and easy to work with, and were confident in their vision. All of the deliverables came even sooner than we were expecting which was a nice surprise, and I've watched our videos sooo many times since we got them back. Truly a great experience! I'd recommend Shutter and Sound to anyone looking for quality footage that really tells a story. :)

We are CityLux Studios - a husband + wife founded photography team. Boston is our home but we love to travel and can often be found in New York, Newport and Florida. We photograph a variety of portrait sessions from marriage proposals to weddings, elopements and boudoir. Sarah's passion for raw emotion + Peter's strong attention to detail blend to make an unmatched experience for each client. It's so important that we make each of our couples feel confident, comfortable and completely at ease.

Awarded Best of Zola
I had the most incredible experience with Kyra from CityLux Studios. I’m not originally from New England and she helped me narrow down the best areas for pictures in Boston. She was so fun to work with and truly made this experience so wonderful. My fiancé hates getting pictures done and he even said he had such a great time. I am getting married back home in Iowa and was originally only going to use CityLux for engagement photos, however, it was such an incredible experience we are going to use them for our wedding next year. I can’t imagine having anyone else shoot our wedding. I felt so comfortable and she was able to truly capture the love in our relationship in photos. Attached are some of my favorite photos from our shoot. I would recommend CityLux to everyone for any occasions.

Hey there, I'm Emma! I am an outgoing and free-spirited photographer living in Manhattan (but born & raised in the Midwest! My heart longs for creating art and telling remarkable stories. I love a good trip to the farmers market, a wine night with my friends, and spending time with my loved ones. Emma Melin Studios is queer-owned and is an inclusive wedding vendor!

Awarded Best of Zola
I considered myself pretty laid-back when it came to most aspects of wedding planning, but I was certain about wanting high-quality, true-to-color, beautiful photographs that would stand the test of time and capture the unique details of our day. After extensive research, I discovered Emma's work on Instagram. From our first meeting, my husband and I knew she was the perfect fit. Not only was her work stunning, but Emma was also easy to talk to and genuinely fun. I loved that we did an engagement session first and would recommend this to everyone if possible. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to get to know Emma better and feel comfortable being photographed. Emma also made it a point to meet with us again in person before the wedding to go over planning details. The effort she put into spending time with us before the wedding truly paid off because it felt like she really understood us. We received the photos quickly after the wedding, and they are beautiful and timeless. Some shots turned out so cool that I feel like we could be in a magazine. Emma kept us on schedule throughout the day and managed our family with grace. I am so grateful that being photographed on the day was an enjoyable experience—none of it felt stuffy or burdensome; it was like hanging out with a great friend. Emma, we are eternally grateful to you! Additionally, I think it's worth mentioning, given the current discussions about wedding photography on social media, that Emma provided several full galleries upfront with different types of lighting once I expressed interest in working with her. There was no ambiguity about her style, and I really appreciated her encouragement to do the engagement session as a way to get to know each other better. She is a true professional through and through!

Justin McCallum Photography

New York, NY
  • Photojournalistic style
  • Starts at $5,200

Hi! I’m Justin (he/him) and I’m here to affirm your love, make you feel like a fucking rockstar, and dance like a total fool. Oh, and take so many gorgeous photos of y’all. Obvs. My style blends both documentary photojournalism and fine art photography: coaching folks who are shy in front of the camera, then stepping back to capture authentic moments uninterrupted. I’ve been lucky enough to have my work published by A Practical Wedding, The New York Times, GLAMOUR, People Magazine and many other fabulous outlets. I'm a stereotypical Capricorn that loves drag shows, campy horror films, every dog I meet, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Awarded Best of Zola
Don’t think you’re photogenic? Worried that folks in your family, wedding party, etc. aren’t photogenic? Justin will MAKE them photogenic. The man is a wizard with the camera, able to capture moments and poses you never imagined possible. The photographer for our wedding was the one thing we knew we would need to splurge on to make sure we felt comfortable and happy on our wedding day. Justin spent so much time working with us on exactly what we wanted while at the same time, truly getting to know us and my god, does it show. Justin was able to capture the true essence of ourselves in our wedding photos, to the point where we started tearing up just looking at them. We cannot recommend this BEAUTIFUL human enough. They are truly the greatest

Rebeca & Andrew

5.0

  • Classic style
  • Starts at $7,000
  • Serves New York, NY

Andrew and I met in the most random place, hiking in the woods 100 miles from where either of us lived. We spoke on the phone for months and saw each other when we could, while we lived hours apart. 7 Years later we're married, raising a handsome pup, and running a business together. Since inception we have won Best of Westchester 2020 for weddings and numerous other industry awards. We take a modern approach to photography. We will light you and pose you in the most flattering natural ways and place you in front of the most beautiful backgrounds, while being professional, respectful and patient with everyone on your guest list!

Awarded Best of Zola
Rebeca and Andrew are not just incredible photographers, but they are also wonderful people who make their clients feel so comfortable. Do not hesitate to book Andrew and Rebeca for your wedding or your next photographed event. My husband and I were joking around about how Andrew and Rebeca felt like our friends after sharing all our special moments together, photographing our engagement photos and our first look the day of the wedding. Rebeca and Andrew create a calm, down to earth, and joyful environment during their shoots. They did a fantastic job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera- we were so happy that we did an engagement shoot with them, they taught us some tips and tricks for posing in front of the camera, and so we were thrilled with how our wedding photos turned out a few months later. Additionally, Rebeca and Andrew are professional, ask a fair price for their incredible work, and are quick to respond to all emails and messages. They made us feel calm, confident, and well taken care of throughout the entire wedding planning process. On your wedding day, you are spending so much time running around, staying on schedule, socializing, etc. It can get really busy and overwhelming. So, we learned that some of the more quiet and intimate moments happen when you are being photographed at your first look or before your guests arrive at your venue. As a result, you don’t just want skillful photographers at your wedding, you want great people who you enjoy spending time with. Overall, we could not have been more happy working with Rebeca and Andrew- in fact, we will miss them! We definitely plan to keep them in mind if we ever need a professional photographer in the future.

Hey, I'm Mary! It's nice to meet you. Summing up who I am in an "about me" is always difficult. What you must know: (1) I'm a nerd. If you want to talk video games, LOTR or Doctor Who, we HAVE to sit down for a bourbon or a coffee. (2) Yes, I will be out on that dance floor with you snapping away while joining in on the fun. And (3), while I'm a photographer first, supporting you during the planning process feels crucial to me - from building a timeline to having your back any way I can.

Mary was an absolute pleasure to work with on our wedding day. Her communication style is easy, clear, and responsive throughout the entire process. The quality of her work and value was exceptional - she captured all the important details in a comfortable and natural way that made us feel at ease. Additionally, Mary was incredibly responsive and organized, answering every question. She even visited our wedding venue with us in advance to scout out the best spots for photos making the day of that much smoother. We are thrilled with the final results and couldn't recommend Mary more highly. She truly made our wedding day so special and we couldn’t imagine the day without her there capturing all the special moments.

A professional who is thoughtful, genuine and somehow made two camera-shy people (us) feel like models. she captured our engagement session our Korean and Chinese tea ceremonies. And let me tell you— I took every chance to be in front of her camera after that. She’s our photographer for life. From the first phone call with Pavel, I knew we were going to have an amazing team. Pavel was so incredibly thorough and reassuring and helped create a perfect timeline for the day. The team, Eddy, Rob & Dave, were so charismatic and knowledgeable. They knew exactly what to do and what instructions to give my husband and I to create the most beautiful and intimate photos. We’re a little camera shy, so the fact they were able to direct us and make us feel comfortable shows their expertise. We are so beyond happy with our photos, full length video and highlight reels. Also - I have to say, the team is so great at capturing AMAZING candids during the party! There were times I didn’t even know they were behind me, and I am so happy to have all these moments captured. I did not feel like I had a camera in my face during the party at all! We had 3K AMAZING photos to look through, and EVERY photo is fantastic. I have also watched my highlight reel so many times, and I’ve already watched my full length film and plan on watching it again with my parents. I will seriously be recommending PSPI to everyone I know!! THANK YOU PSPI!!

Hey there! My name is Emilee, and I am a Minnesota-native living in NYC! I've been photographing people and events for 15 years. I shoot families, couples, individuals, and pets, but my passion lies in wedding photography. I love capturing the whirlwind of a couples' big day, and seeing the love that is shared between them and all their wedding guests. It's magical and wonderful every. single. time.

Awarded Best of Zola
What a dream Emilee was to work with, from start to finish. OUR CEREMONY PARTY: we decided on a private, courthouse elopement on a Wednesday, a 60 person reception party on a Friday. In both, our biggest priority was having a photographer capture the intimate, joyful small details. We went with Emilee because of her eye for the beauty in the small things. She captured both our days perfectly. DOCUMENTARY STYLE: Emilee was perfect behind the scenes, capturing beautiful moments of our friends and family, small details of the courthouse with just us. I look back at some of these photos and ask "how did she even get that?!" She has such an eye. POSED: We had about 20 minutes dedicated to posed, family photos during our reception. Emilee had our families relaxed and laughing, quickly swapping members in and out. In some newlywed photos, we sought her advice for how to pose. She gave quick direction, made us feel confident, and always found the perfect light. COMMUNICATION SPEED: Delivered on every promise, quick replies. Emilee was 15 minutes early to both locations, we never had to worry. PERSONALLY: We met with Emilee about 4 months before our big days. We had coffee, talked about our vision and our biggest priorities. She immediately felt like a friend, and knew she was firmly on our team. If you're looking for a photographer to capture not only beautiful photos of yourself, but more importantly, the feeling in every room, Emilee is the photographer for you. We recommend wholeheartedly, and can't wait for another occasion to work with her. Sincerely, Mara James

After working 10+ years in corporate America in NYC, California and traveling the globe, I found myself wanting more than what the traditional career path had set for me. I stumbled into photography while I was on maternity leave with my oldest and started a side hustle that I had no idea was going to turn into a complete career change years later. From the very first wedding I shot, I knew I was onto something. And ever since then, I haven't looked back.

Awarded Best of Zola
Kim-Trang Photography was the perfect choice for our wedding photography. From the start, Kim’s communication style was ahead of the game - she was warm, friendly, and we were excited to have her on our team. Kim is talented and committed and truly captured the joy and intimacy of our special day. She connected with us and our family in a way that felt more like having a friend there than just a vendor. One of our favorite touches was the sweet Polaroids she left with our wedding cards - the perfect surprise when we were feeling a bit of the post-wedding blues. We couldn't be happier with the sneak peeks we've seen so far and can't wait to see the full gallery. Kim-Trang Photography went above and beyond to make our wedding day truly unforgettable.

I'm in love with human emotions, either it's laughing till it hurts or tears of happiness. When your man hugs you so strong, that you can't breathe or when your dad is crying (for the first time in his life!) listening to your vows at the altar. I do believe, that these un-staged moments are more meaningful than classy portraits on a sunset (but no worries, you'll plenty of both!) If you feel like we are on the same page - let's talk! Write me a few words about who you are, tell me your story and let's create something beautiful together!

Awarded Best of Zola
If you are reading this, go book Dasha! The wedding photographer was the most important vendor for us. After talking to many photographers, we ended up booking Dasha and that's the best decision we've ever made. Through our engagement session, we got so comfortable in front of her camera and the photos turned out great. Ahead of the wedding, I had a final meeting with Dasha and you could tell that she cares about her couples and gives good advice on the timeline. On the wedding day, her professionalism and creativity made the day so easy for us, and we didn't need to give her a long shortlist because we trusted her. When we received the full gallery, we were so BLOWN AWAY. The editing style speaks for itself. We also loved the way she documented our special - it feels very natural and authentic. Many of our families and friends asked us who our photographer was, and we cannot recommend Dasha enough. Thank you, Dasha!!

In 2009 I shot my first wedding, it was a dear friend of mine and the beautiful photos were featured in one of the biggest wedding magazines. I realized that I had found my calling and have been producing stunning wedding photographs with my amazing team and clients ever since.

From the moment we first spoke with Emma Cleary Photo and Video, we knew we were in good hands. Their communication style was clear, prompt, detail-oriented, and educational, putting us at ease throughout the entire planning process. The quality of their work was truly exceptional - the photos they captured were comfortable, beautiful, magical, ethereal, and so clean. They asked all the right questions, from inquiring about golden hour and sunset shots to handling a multitude of family and necessary photos on the day. Most importantly, Emma, the owner, was incredible. I couldn't have planned and executed my wedding without her services and immediate attention to detail, the timeline, the photos needed, her suggestions and discussions, and the seamless edits and delivery of the final products. I highly recommend trusting this business with your event or special day - they were everything I didn't know I needed, and I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Jenny Flora Photography

  • Fine art style

Before I ever held a camera, as a kid I was obsessed with organizing and reorganizing printed family snapshots in albums. This infatuation with captured moments, led to picking out my first film camera, a 35mm Pentax, film developing and darkroom printing in high school, and then my BFA in Photography Degree. From there, I worked in varied sectors of photography, but my true passion lay in documentary work that could bring about awareness of challenging global situations. I have published and exhibited journalistic series internationally, notably at Oxford University and Aperture Foundation.

Jenny is Waterloo Village's preferred photographer and it's incredibly easy to see why! We researched so many photographers and were having a hard time finding a) ones that fit our style and b) were available for a not astronomical price. When we looked up Jenny's info, we were immediately excited by how clean, bright, and airy her photos are. She definitely did not disappoint for our wedding either! Jenny was always communicative, helped us build our ideal shot list, and had a lot of good suggestions for how to make the most out of our time. Her experience with the venue was a huge boon here as we easily got all our traditional posed photos done with time to spare pre-ceremony, and she knew the perfect route to take us around the venue (which is huge and has so many photo opps). She and the day assistant Nicolette she brought on are also just super nice and easy to be around which is exactly what you want on your wedding day. They never once made us feel awkward or forced. She turned around our highlights within a week which was an incredible surprise to get on our honeymoon and I love every single picture already. We definitely recommend Jenny!

What else should I keep in mind when booking a wedding photographer?

Are you interested in an engagement shoot as a test run? Drone photography? Wedding albums? All helpful things to ask about when you’re considering which wedding photographer to book!

What questions should I ask a wedding photographer in NYC?

It can be hard to know exactly what you should be looking for when you’re first exploring wedding photographers. You might want to ask questions like, "How do you capture the essence of 'us'?" or "How do you balance capturing our must have shot list without missing out on unexpected candid moments?" Don't forget the nitty-gritty, either. Inquire about their portfolio, if they've shot at your venue before, and how they navigate New York City’s unpredictable elements (because who hasn't seen a taxi photobomb?). Check out our full list of questions to ask your wedding photographer for even more info.

How long does it take to receive wedding photos in NYC?

Picture this: you've said your vows, had the time of your life at the reception, and now you're back from your honeymoon, eager to relive it all through your photos. But you might need to wait a minute, because good things take time! Most NYC wedding photographers will ask for a 4 to 8-week grace period to finalize your photos. They're carefully sifting through the raw emotions and dance-floor shenanigans to deliver a gallery that's as epic as your love story. We know how eager you are to relive those moments, but your stunning snaps will be worth the wait.

How many images are typically included in a wedding photo package?

Wedding photo packages in NYC are as varied as the city itself, but on average, you might see anything from 300 to 700 finished photos. But hey, it’s not just about quantity, it’s the heart-stopping, tear-jerking quality that counts. Make sure to chat with your photographer about what's important to you – maybe it's those candid laughs during the toast or that magical first dance. So, whether you’re aiming for a minimalist album or an epic visual novella of your day, rest assured you'll have enough photos to keep your memories fresh and your heart full!

Are engagement sessions typically included in wedding photography packages in New York City?

Looking for a photographer to capture the excitement of your engagement, too? Look no further. Many New York wedding photographers bundle engagement photo sessionsinto your wedding package, or will add them on at a reduced rate. It's like a romantic pre-game show where you and your SO can get over some of the camera-shyness. Plus, it's a fantastic way to test the waters with your photographer before the big day so you can make sure they’re a perfect fit (and to capture some great shots for your save the dates!).
