Great night at a great venue
Our wedding was a blast! The team at Box House Events was helpful and supportive right from the start, and all the way through our incredible wedding day. They made it easy to plan ahead, with organized documents and regular check-ins. On wedding day, they made sure we felt comfortable, offering last minute additions and taking care of smaller details while we focused on family, friends, photos and more. Overall, the venue was a fun, beautiful, non-traditional option for a great wedding night (it was cold though, on the roof in late November!). Our guests continue to rave about the food and drinks, and it was such a blast to have a party with views of the New York skyline. Thank you Box House Events!
The Box House was the perfect wedding venue
Every detail about our wedding reception at the Box House Hotel was perfect. The planning process was smooth and seamless - Daryna, Mariah, Mariel, and Nick were all communicative, accommodating, helpful, and friendly. Additionally, Daryna and Mariah were on top of everything at the reception and made the day so much easier for us. The food and drinks were delicious, the space looked beautiful, and the staff was great. We would highly recommend The Box House Hotel to anyone looking to have their wedding in NYC - it really was the perfect place to celebrate!
Magical Night
Our guests were enchanted by the skyline views and the delicious bites and drinks. Everyone was very impressed by the turnover from ceremony space to reception. It was incredibly quick and smooth. The team was a well oiled machine, They handled every transition and any small hiccup with precision and grace. The personal attention given to the couple throughout the reception was greatly appreciated. The attention to detail day of was a wonderful contrast to their more hands-off approach to the pre-planning. The front desk staff at the hotel provided exceptional service from handling questions about the room block to tracking down and setting up a pack and play for the littlest guest. Every staff member that we encountered was professional, warm, and welcoming.
Mixed Experience
We were married at the Box House two months ago and had a genuinely mixed experience. 99% of our guests felt the evening was wonderful; the views were great, the food was outstanding, and the drinks were strong. Many said this was one of the best weddings they’d been to. However, from the paying customer side, we had a different experience. Starting with our tasting back in August, we were served a “chef’s selection” menu, instead of a small sample of all the dishes we could choose from. Outside of one salad, we didn’t want any of these options, most of which were an upsell. Additionally, they cleared tables 45 minutes early, as we wrapped up our meal. We expressed our concerns during the tasting and they assured us that on the day of our event they would not clean up early, even inviting us back to try more food from the menu. Though an imposition, we scheduled a second visit to their restaurant, which resulted in finding the dishes that we liked and ultimately picked for our menu. Flash forward to our wedding day and staff began clearing tables at 10pm when our event ended at 10:30pm, leading some guests to leave early because they thought the event was over. In addition, 99% of our guests had cleared the dance floor by 10:30pm, but at 10:30pm on the dot, a staff member physically moved me off the floor (as I helped a guest!) so they could set up a ladder to take a disco ball down. We were very clearly being rushed out of the space. One week out from the wedding, Box House Event staff convened a call to go over final details. From the start, we’d been explicit in our planning document about the order/timing of our speeches. Despite having all of our information for months, the staff belatedly expressed concern about our timing. Rather than work with us, they told us what they were doing to change our plans and didn’t offer options or alternatives. It was all on us to come up with a working solution, but we all ultimately left the call in agreement, or so we thought. Day of, they made an “executive decision” to revert back to their original suggestion without asking us. This left us no choice but to let it happen. This was the one part of the night that guests had negative feedback on. Before the ceremony, the Box House gave a key to our hotel room to anyone who said they were here to see the bride. This was a huge security risk because multiple people who weren't my husband or me had keys to our room on our wedding day! Lastly, post-event they loaded our room with all of the decor we provided (which was helpful!). However, come checkout, the desk told us we needed to get carts and load everything ourselves. When I pushed back (that we had had our wedding there the night before), the front desk person offered to bring up a single cart. We then had to load it ourselves, bring it down, unload it in the lobby, bring back up for the second load, then bring down, then load the uber in the pouring rain. No hotel personnel helped, just a few guests from the hotel. If you don’t have a strong vision for how your day will flow, we highly recommend the Box House. If you are particular in what you want to see happen and when it happens, you may have a hard time working with their staff. We understand they do a lot of weddings and are professionals/have seen what works and what doesn’t, but at the end of the day, you are the paying customer (and paying a lot at that) and should have the final say in how the most important day of your life goes.
