Opening Brooklyn Girl Bakery was the culmination of years working as a pastry chef and cake decorator in the Philly suburbs. As someone who loved all things wedding related, I decided to venture out on my own so I could focus all my energy making beautiful and delcious cakes.

I've been in business for about 21 years my skills are as you see my flavor choices are listed on my website there are about 15 or more to choose from. I feel decoration is just as important as flavor.

I hold a BS in Marketing and a BA in Business from DeSales University. I have trained with world-renowned sugar artists to expand my cake artistry skills. I am a national competitor with many awards for cake design as well as cake flavors, cupcake design, and cookie design. Over the years I have honed my craft into making beautiful and delicious custom cakes.

Salt and Light Pastry Co. was founded in early 2018 in the vibrant city of New Orleans by Chef Ruby Shenk. Ruby was a Pastry Chef in the New Orleans restaurant scene for 6 years before starting her own business.
