In 2006, Meredith opened The Artisan Bake Shop in Rochester, Massachusetts. Meredith has been creating elaborately decorated and absolutely delicious cakes, pastries, cupcakes and pastries featuring locally farmed eggs, fruits and dairy. It all started 9 years ago when I started dating Diane’s son (my now husband). For our first Valentine’s day I made him chocolate chip cookies in the shape of hearts. Diane tried one and said, yep, this girl can bake. Diane has been making every flavor Christmas cookie under the sun since 1993. After tasting my chocolate chip cookie that day she brought me on as her helper and we would bake away during the holidays. Fast forward a few years and we have decided to make this a full time adventure!

Owner Shauna Hinchen-Joyal studied pastry arts at Johnson and Wales University and has worked in the baking industry for over 20 years, making specialty event and wedding cakes as well as her signature pastries. Shauna and her husband and partner Bob have been trained by an expert baristas at Atomic Coffee Roasters and are proud to serve drinks brewed with their beans. All our espresso drinks are made with our gorgeous Italian made La Marzocco machine.

As word of mouth spread a demand for more patties gave birth to Seacoast Sweets. 3 new flavors were added and by 2015 it was a full-time business. In 2018 Seacoast Sweets moved to Rhode Island from Massachusetts. Since then, Seacoast Sweets has continued to grow online, in destination hotels throughout New England, tourist locations, weddings, and events, at boutique retailers, and as a popular corporate gift.

I am a small, one woman-operated home bakery that specializes in custom buttercream cakes and macarons for birthdays, engagement parties, and small weddings. I began as a cake artist in 2020 and have fallen in love with creating realistic buttercream flowers and piping vintage-style Lambeth cakes.

For as long as I can remember, I've loved being in the kitchen, and have been told that I remind people of my grandma, Mazie, who passed from cancer when my dad was young. While I've spent more hours than most in the kitchen (often at odd hours), my career led me in another direction. However, I've repeatedly been told "you should open a bakery!" Through years of education, baking has been my therapy, and brought happiness to my colleagues' stomaches as well. After being diagnosed with cancer at a young age myself, I've realized the importance of pursuing your passions, and with the support of my family, I pursued baking as a second job.

Hello friends! I’m a nonbinary (they/them) artist, cat parent, and first-time business owner. I derailed my 4-year college plan to work in a restaurant and then attend pastry school - which is how I landed in Rhode Island. I needed a field that was both regimented and creative and pastry delivered! I’ve baked in Providence for over 6 years, and I couldn’t imagine ever leaving the incredible network of small food businesses that I’ve been welcomed into. Every cake and frosting is made by me, from scratch - no fondant in my kitchen! My favorite designs are those that capture the personalities and passions of my incredible clients.

CHIC is a culmination of my retail, styling, and design background. Truthfully, the idea of this little biz was created while on lockdown during the pandemic, a little unorthodox I know, but I was determined.
