Opened in spring of 2001, the Los Altos History Museum resides in an impressive three-level, 8,200-square-foot building – built entirely with private donations; building ownership was transferred to the City of Los Altos in 2002. Welcome to the historic Rengstorff House, Mountain View’s oldest home and one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the West Coast! We are located at 3070 N. Shoreline Boulevard. Fully restored in 1991, the Rengstorff House features: a Victorian Italianate design with a hip roof; a central gable crowned by a widow's walk; a front portico; and a symmetrical room layout. The gracious dining room and four lovely parlors downstairs, all decorated with classic period décor, open up to brick patios surrounded by manicured lawns, blooming flowers and natural areas. Nearby you will find the Shoreline Lake, Golf Links, and two, classic eateries to enjoy and explore.

When guests arrive at the redwood-and-glass building, they often gather in its open, airy lobby. Then, if you’re having your ceremony here (and most couples do), your family and friends will be ushered through Craftsman-styled double wooden doors to the serene South Patio. This beautiful, crescent-shaped flagstone space wraps around one entire side of the building and features a Zen-like border of Japanese maples, native plants and graceful oaks. Handcrafted ceramic urns are integrated throughout and serve as artful and calming water features. You can opt to exchange vows in front of those wooden entry doors, or take full advantage of the patio’s pièce de résistance and say “I do” beneath an asymmetrical canvas canopy.
