Construction on Powerhouse began in 1915 as part of an expansion project by the D.C. Paper Manufacturing Company. In 1917, the building began operating as a power plant for the paper company. Today, the iconic smokestack still stands 150 feet above the building, symbolizing its towering impact on the history and culture of Georgetown.
