We are a completely solar system venue, so not having power the day of your wedding will not be an issue. We offer multiple scenes for your pictures from open fields, apple orchard, pond, beach area, a creek, and woods. So much to choose from. Avon Hill is a laid back, luxurious wedding and vacation destination in central Virginia. Beautifully appointed bride and groom suites are included for your wedding and each wedding package is for a full weekend of property access.

Our 50 acre historical venue includes an 1827 antebellum style home and 5,100 sq ft barn build specifically as a wedding venue space. 200 year old trees and our vineyards are an incredible backdrop for photos. 2 ponds adjacent to the barn reflect the perfect sunsets.

Couples can host a gorgeous outside ceremony on the concrete patio, or opt for a covered pavilion ceremony. The pavilion is open on three sides to bring the beautiful scenery indoors, but the sides and barn-style doors can be closed in the event of inclement weather. Inside the pavilion, lighting is provided by lanterns and chandeliers, and a large hand-crafted fireplace takes spotlight, with rocks from the farm incorporated into its design. The outdoor patio is attached to the pavilion, creating an extra space that can be used for a ceremony, reception area, or dance floor. A second pavilion was completed in 2018 to provide reception space that is separate from the ceremony site, but within close proximity. This pavilion is completely enclosed and offers a gas fireplace as well as lanterns and chandeliers for lighting. As wedding guests arrive, wedding parties can use the bridal suite to get ready.

Artistic wood features abound throughout the barn. Much of the wood, harvested right from the property, was meticulously shaped by hand to add a warm artistic feel to the spaces within. Its sanctuary was constructed in 1882, making it the second oldest religious structure still standing in the Town of Amherst. Starting in 2012, a grassroots group took the initiative to save a historic structure in the heart of Amherst, VA, and to re-purpose it as a creative community center. Located in the middle of a vibrant village, the goal was to provide a gathering place for events. The Space Downtown was created in late 2010 by owners of chefs Tim Burgess and Vincent Derquenne. The two have been partners since 1991, creating their first restaurant Metropolitain which operated in the same location as Space. With abundant natural lighting, the barn is immersed in the center of the farm with views to the Blue Ridge mountains, our pond, and surrounding pasture. Barren Ridge Vineyards is a small vineyard and winery in the heart of Virginia’s beautiful Shenandoah Valley. John and Shelby Higgs opened the vineyard in 2008, on land purchased by John’s father in 1934 when the farm was known as St. James Orchard. Clearing the land, tending the vines, and transforming the packing barn into a state-of-the-art winery has been a labor of love for the Higgs family. Part of their vision is to see other families celebrate the special occasions and milestones of their lives at Barren Ridge, and they created event spaces characterized by warmth, elegance, rustic beauty, and Southern hospitality, surrounded by a backdrop of spectacular views.
