The Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture, is a hidden gem in the heart of the historic Beacon Hill neighborhood. Founded in 1919, The Vilna is the last-remaining immigrant era synagogue building in Boston and now serves as a center for Jewish culture and communal engagement. The century-old synagogue building combines the charm of an historic sanctuary with modern event space for hosting private life-cycle, social, or corporate events. The Vilna offers a wonderful setting for family events such as b’nai mitzvah, weddings, baby namings, or memorial services. The SoWa Power Station is a masterpiece of late-industrial glamor. Built in 1891 as the world’s largest power generating plant, it produced enough electricity to run the West End Street Railway. The century-old property’s structural elements have since been rescued and restored, transforming it into a blank canvas for community, celebration, and innovation. This Victorian treasure was built in the late 1880s, and originally served as the county courthouse. It’s been lovingly restored, and boasts a two-story theater space with an exquisitely embellished ceiling and wraparound mezzanine balcony. In the warmer months, ceremonies may be held in Centanni Courtyard. This airy outdoor space continues the historic feel of the Arts Center with lawns, a large arbor, and brick pathways. Your rental fee helps support the Center’s mission: to educate the community about diversity through the presentation of multicultural arts programs, and to make the center available to artists and groups who may not otherwise have access to a professionally equipped space.
