About this venue

The Sunset Coffee Building is located at 1019 Commerce Street, Houston, TX at the intersection of Main Street and Buffalo Bayou next to Allen’s Landing, the “Plymouth Rock” of the City of Houston. Built in 1910, the Sunset Coffee Building was originally a coffee roasting company. In the late 60’s it was home to the Love Street Light Circus, a psychedelic music club featuring many local bands. In 2003, the building was purchased by Buffalo Bayou Partnership (BBP) as part of the organization’s master plan to revitalize Buffalo Bayou. The Sunset Coffee Building offers three rentable spaces for special events. The Rooftop Terrace looks out over the intersection of Buffalo and White Oak Bayous, the original site of the Port of Houston. The Café 1st floor level is an enclosed industrial style space with a balcony overlooking the bayous. The Plaza, located between the building and Commerce Street, is a perfect space for small concerts, festivals and receptions.

I had my wedding in the indoor cafe area on June 14,24. Rebecca was very helpful and always ready to help. She remained available at all time to us and She provided recommendations to help ease the work load when vendor shopping, helped during the event and even after during clean up time. We really enjoyed our wedding celebration at Sunset coffee and the view from the rooftop was a great setting for sunset photos with our photographer. I highly recommend booking for events at this location.

We held our wedding reception at the Sunset Coffee Building and overall had a positive experience. The venue coordinators were very responsive and communicated quickly about details, which we appreciated. They were forthright in providing recommendations based on their expertise. The view over the bayou was gorgeous and made for beautiful photos. The indoor space was large and flexible to accommodate our guest count. The team worked hard to actualize our vision. At times they made unilateral decisions about layout and placement which caught us off guard. While likely well-intentioned, the changes felt a bit pushy rather than collaborative. With open communication on both sides, we think most issues could have been avoided. We'd recommend the Sunset Coffee Building for its beauty and event readiness, while noting that couples should be prepared to firmly but politely stand their ground on certain preferences.
