For centuries, the beauty and natural treasures of the St. Croix Valley have drawn people to the area which is now Stillwater. The first to call this area home were the Sioux and Chippewa Nations. Later, the first traders and trappers in Minnesota Territory settled here. By the mid 1880’s, railroading and river activity helped build the community into a bustling town of 13,000 people. Stillwater became the trade center for miners and trappers to the North, and farmers and lumbermen to the West. The Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad eventually saw a need for a freight depot. In 1979, the historical significance of the building was recognized and the Freight House became the first building in Stillwater to be placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

​Built in 1905, the Connolly Shoe Factory was renovated in 2016 to become JX Venue, one of the largest event venues in Minnesota. JX Venue boasts 14,000 sq. feet of event space and has a capacity of up to 720 guests. The venue is perfect for large weddings, small celebrations and everything in between. Purposely ambiguous, the name “JX” is defined by the first class events that are hosted within the exposed brick walls. Glass House is a unique event space in the North Loop of Minneapolis located inside the facility of Hennepin Made, a local company founded in 2011 drawing on traditional glassblowing techniques to craft hand-blown accents that blur the line between everyday object and modern art. The space’s original concrete floors, cinderblock walls, and steel beam construction have been re ned and accentuated by modern elements to create a beautiful backdrop that blends past and present. Our building at 147 Holden Street was constructed in 1955 as a glass warehouse and mirror manufacturing plant for the Ford McNutt Company. Hennepin Made acquired the property in 2016 from Brinn Glass in order to expand their operations and grow their vision to connect people through craft. Thus, Parallel Cafe + Holden Room were created.
