## Keep everything you need in one place.
Chances are, you have a lot of things you need for your honeymoon stored on your phone, tablet, or laptop (like your reservation confirmations, for example). If you have to search through your email every time you need something, though, you’re more likely to get sucked into distractions, like work emails or social media notifications.

## Minimize distractions on your phone.
Turning off notifications is a great start. But the truth is, your phone has plenty of other ways to take you out of the moment on your honeymoon—if you let it.

Ah, the honeymoon. After saying, “I do,” couples look forward to spending time together relaxing after a busy time of planning. - __Motorhome__ Breaking down the term motorhome into its two parts—motor and home—defines RV type. Motorhomes have an engine and allow the passengers to be in the living quarters while on the road. 
- __Travel Trailer__ A travel trailer is pulled by an SUV, pickup truck, or another vehicle rated for the trailer’s specific weight. A modification is the fifth wheel, which is the trailer style that hooks into a pickup truck bed. Fifth wheels often have sleeping quarters over top of the truck’s cabin. 
- __Campervan__ Sleepervans are roughly the same size as a traditional van, although some are taller and longer. Campervan rentals are like mini hotel rooms on wheels. They have all of the necessities included in an easy to drive vehicle.

## Never buy your business class ticket upfront.

## Bid your price.
Imagine playing, ‘what are the odds’, but instead of a silly dare, you’re bidding on how much you’re willing to pay to fly business class on your honeymoon? Believe it or not, it’s a real thing, and airlines like United (and their partners), Hawaiian Airlines, and Virgin like to take part in it. 

Here’s how it works: After you purchase a flight ticket directly from the airline, you’ll get a ‘bid an upgrade’ email a few weeks later. The email will basically ask how much you’re willing to spend to fly business class. 

While this might sound fun and exciting—and it really can be effective—there are a few drawbacks. First, this doesn’t guarantee a ticket for both you and your partner. Second, once you bid a price, there’s no way to go back and alter your number. If the airline accepts your bid, your money is taken directly from your account or credit card on file. So, be sure that you’re sure about your amount and that you have the money available to front the cost if you do get lucky.

## Check prices 24 hours beforehand. 
If business class is looking a little lonely, airlines may dramatically dip their prices for flight tickets. In the company’s mind, a flight is taking off whether or not business class seats are filled. To hopefully avoid the sunken cost, though, airlines will sometimes reduce the price of business class seats to earn some extra money last minute.

Check your flight’s seat availability (on the seat option map) and then also check ticket prices for the open business class seats on that same flight. An upgrade may only mean a small (relatively speaking) fee. 

There are a few downsides to checking just 24 hours ahead of takeoff. For one, it doesn’t guarantee business class seats at all. Alternatively, you may only be able to upgrade your seat and not your partner’s. It’s possible that you can only score business class one way or leg of your journey (instead of round trip).

### The Bad
On the other hand, leaving for your honeymoon immediately after the reception can be challenging, too. On top of all the last-minute details that take place in the week before the wedding, it’s stressful to even think about packing and planning for the honeymoon, too. 

That’s what happened when Analisa Jolley, founder of the honeymoon blog, [__The Honeymoon Vagabonds__](https://thehoneymoonvagabonds.com/), took her honeymoon right after the wedding. “We thought it would help us decompress after the stressful months of planning our wedding. I was dead wrong,” she says. “Not only did this make planning that much more stressful, but since we left the day after the wedding we also didn’t get to open any wedding gifts and some of the gifts we could have used while on our honeymoon like money and gift cards.” 

Giving yourselves a week after the wedding to rest up at home and take time to pack and regroup before the fun of the honeymoon starts may be your best bet, she thinks. That way, you won’t have to worry if your partner has their passport and swimsuit packed while you’re in the middle of your vows.

## Should we wait a couple of days?  
If leaving directly after your big day sounds overwhelming—but you don’t want to postpone your perfect honeymoon for too long—you could opt to wait to leave for your trip until a few days after your wedding. 

### The Good
Let’s be real—the ceremony and wedding reception can be exhausting. And for some couples, the thought of taking off for a big trip directly after such an exhausting day—even if it is the trip of a lifetime!—just does not sound like much fun.

By waiting a couple of days to leave for your honeymoon, you give yourself (and your partner!) a time to rest and recharge after all the wedding day-busyness. This can give you the energy that you need to feel fully present and engaged in your honeymoon—which is especially important if you’re planning a more active trip (for example, a hiking trip in Hawaii).

If you choose to postpone your honeymoon for even a few days, you’ll have to contend with reality and the normal grind of your day-to-day life. For example, you may have to go back to work for a few days—or, at the very least, you’ll have to deal with household responsibilities. There’s no hard and fast rule that says you need to go on your honeymoon right after your wedding—or even soon after your wedding. In fact, many couples choose to postpone their honeymoon for months (or even up to a year!).

### The Good
There are a lot of pros to significantly postponing your honeymoon trip—starting with scheduling. Many people take time off for their weddings—which may include a few days before the wedding (for setup and pre-wedding events like the rehearsal dinner) and after (to rest and recharge after all the wedding festivities). Many people don’t have the flexibility or PTO to take off an additional chunk of time for their honeymoon right after their wedding—in which case, it would make sense to postpone.

Another perk of pushing your honeymoon back a few months is that your [honeymoon destinations](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/best-honeymoon-destinations) aren’t limited to the time of year you get married. For example, let’s say you’re getting married in July—but your idea of a dream honeymoon is a week skiing the slopes in Colorado. If you didn’t postpone your trip, you wouldn’t be able to make your honeymoon dreams a reality (not much snow in Colorado in July!). But by pushing your honeymoon to December or January, you could have the honeymoon that you want—no compromises necessary.

The final reason you may want to consider waiting a few months (or a year!) for your honeymoon is financial. Weddings are expensive—and many couples don’t have the financial resources to pay for their weddings and a big trip immediately after. There’s one major downside to scheduling your honeymoon months (or a year) after your wedding. And that downside is that, by the time the trip rolls around, it may not feel like a honeymoon anymore.

Months (or a year) into your marriage, you’re not necessarily going to feel like newlyweds; you’re going to feel like a married couple. Realistically, the best time to take your honeymoon may come down to a few different factors. Here are a few more to consider.
- __When can you get the best deal?__ To keep the budget realistic, consider when you can get the best deal on flights and hotels and travel then. If you get married on a Saturday evening, you might get a better deal on a hotel and flight if you wait until Tuesday to leave. Set up Google flight alerts and book well in advance to get the best deals. If you’re traveling to a trendy destination, you may save money by avoiding its busy season and visiting a few months later.
- __How's the weather?__ You may have chosen September on the East Coast for a gorgeous fall wedding, but it’s now [__hurricane season__](https://www.zola.com/expert-advice/plan-a-honeymoon-hurricane-season) in the Caribbean. Waiting a few months for peace of mind may work best in cases like this. 
- __How much time can you take off work?__ You and your partner may have already taken a few days (or a week) off to prepare for the wedding. ## When Should You Make the Ask? 
While there is no definitive rule for how far in advance you should speak to your boss about your honeymoon vacation, it’s best to give them as much time as possible. In some cases, you may not be able to formally submit the request form for your time off with human resources until closer to the trip, but it’s still a good idea to clear your chosen dates with your boss. 

Oftentimes, deciding when to ask your boss for time away is more about the circumstances of your unique situation, rather than a particular timeline. For example, you’ll want to have this discussion before booking any of your arrangements. While most companies and supervisors are more than understanding when it comes to weddings and honeymoons, it could prove challenging to adjust your plans, should anything go wrong. It’s also best to consider the time of year you plan to travel and what will be happening in your company at that time. For instance, if your employer puts on a large conference every fall, that may not be the best time for you to be away for two weeks. 

Similarly, it is also beneficial to consider the time of day you choose to have your conversation with your boss. If you know she is usually busy in the mornings, don’t try to talk to her right when she walks in the door. Instead, wait for a time when she is free and able to process your time off request. 

## How Much Time Can You Ask For? 
Unfortunately, this is a question with no clear answer.
