The property also offers trails for walking, running, and hiking. Union Hill Inn is close to Historic Columbia, Sonora and Jamestown. We're also a short drive from Murphys and Twain Harte. In fact, a day trip to Yosemite is also possible. There are lots of local attractions to keep you as busy or leisurely as you might want! At Union Hill Inn, there are plenty of tales to tell of the property's history and how our style was acquired for the rooms and cottages. And let's not leave out, "The Barn Stead" consisting of three party friendly structures steeped in Gold Country history. Beautiful Venue but needs serious improvements!
I have always wanted to get married at Union Hill Inn. It’s beautiful! The chapel itself is so quaint, intimate, and a very rustic romantic place to get married. Which is why it’s hard for me to give a 3 star review. As beautiful as this venue is I have to give an honest review. One of the issues my husband and I faced was the fall in communication. Union Hill Inn is an expensive destination to get married. When you go on their website everything looks good on paper. The website made it sound like the wedding coordinators were included in the price which they are not. You have to choose their wedding coordinators and have to pay them in addition to the venue. Something again the website or the owner did not initially communicate. The wedding coordinators ranged from 2500 -3500. And to be honest I wasn’t crazy impressed with our wedding coordinator. Really wish I would have spent the money to hire my own. Another thing, the owner Barbara is hard to get ahold of. I had so many questions to ask her and the only way to communicate to her was through via email. In which she would take days to respond to a single question. The wedding coordinators would pretty much communicate for her and there were many moments I was left confused and frustrated. As beautiful as the venue is it needs serious upgrading! We paid the 12,000 to have a weekend wedding. It was nice to have our wedding party stay at Union Hill Inn but many of the cottages had leaks, cracked windows, and weren’t cleaned very well. Also there were bugs everywhere in our cottages. Someone on our wedding party found a bra and underwear in her dresser from a previous guest. I had also found a pair of slippers and various miscellaneous items under my bed that again were from previous guests. I feel if I’m paying this rate for our wedding party to stay the weekend the cottages should be in top condition. Breakfast is also included in the rate which was not very good. The eggs were powdered and most of the food was overcooked. Tasted like cafeteria food to be honest. And I’m not a super picky eater. Also we rented a golf cart to transport our guests around the venue. A lot of the paved roads were in poor condition and unsafe to drive on. It was very uneven payment. My driver almost flipped his golf cart trying to drive on them. We were forced to take a private road that was blocked off because it was part of the owners driveway which happened to be paved well. We felt bad to go onto private property but again we had no other option. It had rained the weekend before so the grounds were pretty muddy in parts as well. Would have been nice if they would have filled the muddy parts in. They also had a huge mosquito infestation! They were everywhere! Not sure if they spray for mosquitos but it’s seriously needed. I feel fair in giving a 3 star review. I wanted to give it a 5 star but due to our experience a 5 star rating is not deserved. Overall again, Union Hill Inn is beautiful! If you can get past all of the issues I have brought up or don’t have a budget then you’ll love it! If not, if you want your moneys worth I would look elsewhere.
