About this venue

The Marigny Opera House, alone in its rustic beauty and authentic New Orleans charm, is a special place that values both preservation and progress. A solar-paneled roof shelters newly restored stained glass windows in this decommissioned 1853 German Catholic Church. When you plan an event here, your patronage enables us to continue supporting local artists through our highly successful nonprofit arts programming. We are home to a ballet company, 2-3 weekly music performances, and numerous other culture bearers of New Orleans, from theatre to opera and beyond. You bolster the vibrant arts landscape we have endeavored to offer New Orleans and those who call it home. With your support, you join us in the mission of bringing the arts to all. A decommissioned 1853 church-flooded with natural light and filled with rustic charm-gives colorful tile, stained glass, wood, and vaulted ceilings.

Marigny Opera House has 2 entrances: on Saint Ferdinand Street (front, non-accessible) and Dauphine Street (side, accessible with ramp). While we do offer free use of our cushioned red chairs and black folding chairs, it is a raw space. We welcome you to bring in your own vendors but also have a list you can consult as a guide. With advance notice/planning and tech fees, we can use our in-house lighting to create a dazzling display for your event. We have free street parking around the building.

This refreshing green space has endless possibilities, from a cocktail hour to a seated dinner, from a live brass band to circus arts!

This courtyard rests on high ground and doesn't flood easily. It can fit as large as a 40x40 tent and dance floor, as well as a catering tent (or up to 3 food trucks) and portable restrooms. Note: We can supply power hookups for catering but don't provide a full kitchen. The courtyard is surrounded by a wooden fence and has multiple entry points.

Bill and the team at Marigny Opera House were a breeze to work with! He was very thorough and responsive when we had any questions and his spirit in general was so kind. We wanted a venue with true New Orleans history and beauty, and the MOH provided that no matter if we were out front, inside, or in the courtyard. If you're looking for a venue outside of the Quarter, we HIGHLY recommend. Our guests were very impressed, and we can't wait to return to experience some of their performing arts shows. Thank you MOH!

There is free street parking surrounding the Marigny Opera House.

Yes, our Dauphine Street entrance (side entrance through the courtyard) is wheelchair accessible. Our Saint Ferdinand entrance (front entrance) is not wheelchair accessible.

Yes! We host a variety of events–such as elopements, conferences, filming, photoshoots, birthday parties, family reunions, Mardi Gras krewes, etc.–to name a few! Please see our packages for more info and staff contacts.

Yes and no–yes, it is an 1853 German Catholic Church, but also no, because it no longer functions as a church. It was decommissioned in the 1990s and has served as a performing arts and rental venue since 2011. Rentals support local New Orleans artists in our nonprofit mission!

No, we only allow live music in the venue. We can recommend some wonderful musicians and bands for you!

We are located in the middle of a residential neighborhood and appreciate our neighbors, so we respect the noise ordinance. The last song must play no later than 9:15pm. However, you're always welcome to second-line your party down to Anna's, or perhaps the French Quarter!
