Guemes Island Dream Wedding
My wedding day has been the best day of my life so far. It is true that I chose the right woman to marry, but also true is how phenomenally everything came together in such a perfect location! After staying at Guemes Island Resort for the first time several years ago, my then-girlfriend and I agreed that it would be a fantastic place to have a wedding. So, when we got engaged in 2023 we knew right away that Guemes Island Resort was in the running. Though we looked at a few other places, our hearts weren't nestled into the landscape the way they immediately were at the resort. We got a tour of the property as a wedding venue from Carolyn in Fall of 2023 and were immediately drawn in again. We locked in a date for a Fall 2024 wedding. We couldn’t believe how affordable it was to rent out the entire resort. Though it took a lot of organizing on our part, deciding who goes in what cabin, etc, etc, etc, Carolyn and Lily and others at the resort were able to talk us through these decisions helpfully. There was some shuffling, but it all ended up perfectly. The back cabins with the personal hot tubs were a great get-away for some couples coming from far away (and we took one of those as well!). One of the larger cabins was great for my bride’s larger family, siblings, nephews, and father to all be together. The other large cabin housed a close-knit group of our friends who ended up having adventures and making memories together all weekend, our wedding of course being one of those. My aunt and uncle needed an accessible cabin and that was available as well, thankfully. And my best friend brought her two young boys. They, along with the nephews, made good use of the rec room with all the games. We had the wood fired tub going Friday night when everyone got in, and we had a bonfire too that we all hung out around until late into the evening. The day of was perfect, with Mount Baker as a backdrop to our getting married just steps from the water. We had about 75 people there all together. While we rented a tent (because who knows what October weather is going to do), the day was beautiful. We didn’t rent tables or chairs for the care and feeding of our guests, there was enough seating for everyone on logs and adirondack chairs and picnic tables (all beautifully decked out with driftwood and huge bouquets of dahlias). I’m trying to focus just on the venue as I write this, but to be honest every choice we made around our wedding day tied in so perfectly with Guemes Island Resort and the surrounding views, from the flowers, to the rustic decoration choices, to the blankets spread on the green lawn, to the dance floor, to the waves lapping the shore, and even my suit matched the landscape so well. Oh, and I have to mention also that we had a cold plunge in the ocean water the morning of, and then warmed up in the large, wonderfully hot sauna after. What a gift! When I say it was the best day of my life, and when all the feedback from our guests was how perfect the place and day ended up being, I couldn’t have imagined doing it in a different place. Truly. As soon as the weekend was over, we said to each other that we wanted to get married at Guemes Island Resort all over again someday.
Have your wedding at Guemes Island Resort.
Have your wedding here! If you like the water, the outdoors, the beach, chill people and avoiding the wedding industrial complex, this is the place for you. We looked at so many venues, and none came close to this place. Guemes Island is easily accessible with a short ferry ride, yet you feel far away from the city. It's surrounded by woods and right on the beach! The resort has a bunch of cabins that are all included in the rental. Our friends and family stayed the whole weekend. There are plenty of Airbnb's on the island if you have more people than they can hold. They were super helpful every step of the way. The staff are all so nice and clearly care about the place they are working at. It's also owned by locals, which is awesome. We spent months looking at venues, toured a bunch of them, and none had what we were looking for. Or their fee just to rent their ballroom for the afternoon was twice what you pay here for the entire resort all weekend! Your wedding is going to be awesome, why not enjoy it for multiple days? As soon as we arrived here, we knew this was the place. The staff was also super easy to work with and very helpful with anything we needed. They truly went above and beyond. Not only do you get all the cabins included so 90 people can stay all weekend, they have a sauna, wood fired hot tub (3 cabins have their own hot tub too), and plenty of room to grill, eat, and party. We rented a huge tent to have the reception in. They also have great relationships with vendors who made the day amazing and flow smoothly. There is a store at the resort, and another one on the island if you need anything. Anacortes is also a very short ferry ride away. The ferry was not an issue, the ride takes 5 minutes and it sails often. If you're used to the chaos of the state ferries, don't worry here. Our wedding was incredible, and Guemes Island Resort was a huge part of making that happen.
