About this venue

Colvin House is an extraordinary wedding venue featuring an inviting glamorous interior, large outdoor reception areas, beautiful gardens, beach access & unforgettable views of Lake Michigan. Designed in 1909 by visionary Prairie School architect, George W Maher, the mansion is a historic landmark and was a private residence before its current life as an events venue & coworking space. We pride ourselves on fostering inclusivity & we strive to reduce wedding waste by having almost everything needed onsite while also allowing couples vendor flexibility. Previous residents added details reflecting the styles of grand movie theaters and the glamorous neoclassical revival flair of the 1920’s and 1930’s, giving the house a relaxed but unified mix of architectural styles. From the majestic crystal chandelier escorting you down the grand staircase to the marble fireplaces, we invite you to imagine the house is yours for the day as you invite family and friends in to celebrate your union.

We were drawn to Colvin House because of the mansion's historic details, but believe it truly shines when paired with the talents of Pyrite Sun, their in-house planning, catering, rentals, and floral team. We met with Sarah (Colvin's Events Manager/Owner of Pyrite Sun) to tour the space and ended up hiring Pyrite Sun for our entire wedding at Colvin House. Not only was it convenient to have everything under one roof, but we had a personalized wedding experience like no other–complete with vintage furniture, plates, and coupes, the most incredible floral from Colvin's gardens, and a customized food menu that our guests still rave about. I also love that Sarah recommends great vendors they've worked with and happily coordinates whatever you need with any other vendors you'd like to hire, as well. Overall, an incredibly special experience you won't find anywhere else. Thank you, Colvin House and Pyrite Sun, for making our vintage glamour wedding dreams come true!

Saturday rentals include a 11-hour rental with 3 hour set up/getting ready time, 7 hour event, and 1 hour clean up. Friday and Saturday rentals are a 9 hour period, with 3 hour getting ready/set up time, 5 hour event, and 1 hour clean up. Weeknight rentals and mornings are on a case by case hourly basis.

Yes. It is an additional $600 rental fee for the event to extend past 12:00AM during peak season. Clean up time for an event ending at midnight extends to 1:00 am as part of the rental period. And event ending 1 am would incur the additional $600 fee and clean up would end at 2:00 am.

YES! We have multiple parking options! We have a courtyard behind the venue for drop off and load in. Used for parking in winter or outdoor event space in nice weather. We have partner lots very close to the property. Closest options are $15 and $20 per car for the day, a further lot (3 blocks) is without charge when available and is usually used for vendors and staff.

We are a BYOB friendly venue, however, you must have a licensed bartender provided by one of our approved caterers. Alcohol deliveries can usually be arranged for the day or morning before your event.

We require a licensed wedding caterer. We have an in-house wedding service team that includes customized catering & a list of approved, preferred caterers. If there is a wedding caterer of your choosing who isn't on our preferred vendors list, we might be able to add them through our onboarding process. We strive to support sustainable practices and ask that of our caterers as well.

Yes. We have a wheelchair lift that is accessible from our courtyard and a handicap accessible bathroom.

We have 2 restrooms on our first floor that are gender neutral, one of which is handicap accessible. Additionally, we have 2 large events restrooms with 8 stalls in our basement.

Candles are permitted if they are in glass votives (non taper candles). The flame of the candle must not be any higher than the votive. We do not permit confetti, glitter, stickers, or hay. Materials can be hung on windows or the fireplace with command hooks, but not on the walls, as it is a historic landmark.

Yes! The best! In addition to our organically grown gardens in the front with views of the lake, we have a large fenced-in brick courtyard behind the house where you can have a ceremony, cocktail hour, or dinner! We also have a beautiful, newly remodeled Coach House with garage doors that open up for open air, covered events as a secondary lounge and bar area for your cocktail hour and reception!
