Historic Edwards Place

5.0

Springfield, IL
  • Up to 75 guests
  • Raw space
  • Indoor & outdoor

Edwards Place, built in 1833, was a social center of antebellum Springfield. In its gracious parlors Abraham Lincoln, Stephen Douglas, Ulysses S. Grant, and other Illinois luminaries gathered at elegant parties and balls. You, too, can have your special day in the same rooms where Abraham and Mary Lincoln were guests more than 150 years ago, now meticulously restored to the grandeur of their antebellum days. Edwards Place is available to rent for showers, weddings, and receptions – the perfect choice for a distinctive event in a historically significant setting. You can even include extra services for your event, such as the use of a piano often heard by Abraham Lincoln (and possibly played at his wedding!). Our rental space has three areas of possibility - the historic house museum, the grounds in front of Edwards Place, and the M.G. Nelson Gallery, a part of our parent organization, the Springfield Art Association, and directly attached by a doorway to historic Edwards Place.

The Edwards Place is a beautiful site! The staff were very helpful and flexible allowing us to visit the site multiple times, they were open regarding their seating arrangement, and due to the nature of the site it is fully decorated. The site was beautiful and the wedding was as well! The historic charm of the home added to the romantic feel of the day. I would recommend this site to anyone looking to get married as it is wonderful all around!

Our historic event venue in Springfield has a distinctive and beautiful architectural design which is the perfect balance of vintage character, with an intimate vibe. The owners were prompt and friendly in all of our communication leading up to the big day, quickly responding to emails and calls with a cheerful attitude. When we walked in the day of, everything was set up and ready to go just as promised. We were able to get the specific wines and champagne we requested without any issues. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, with charming exposed brick walls and lovely lighting. It really set the stage for our special day. I highly recommend Venue 1929 for any event - it's a gorgeous spot and the owners are true professionals who also happen to be very kind people. Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts

4.8

Bloomington, IL
  • Up to 400 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor

The mission of the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts is to create an environment where all forms of artistic expression are appreciated, encouraged, and seen as a contribution to the quality of life in our community. Built-in 1921 as a home for the American Passion Play, the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA), then known as Bloomington's Scottish Rite Temple, boasted an elegant lobby fronted by a graceful five-arched façade, a ballroom that could seat 1,000 diners and a 1,320-seat theatre that featured the largest stage west of New York. In 2000, The City of Bloomington formed the Bloomington Cultural District to assume ownership of the Consistory and surrounding properties to shepherd it through a restoration.

My husband and I held our wedding reception at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts and were very pleased with our experience. The venue coordinators were great to work with - communication was quick and easy every step of the way. The open, elegant ballrooms provided a spacious backdrop for our special day. Having an attendant on hand to help with spills and clean up was a huge help. One piece of advice on the bar service - you have to use a vendor with a City of Bloomington liquor license, so don't wait until the last minute to book one like I did! It can take some time to get that squared away. Overall, the value and service was fantastic. The BPAC team helped our wedding vision come to life beautifully.

The Barrel Room

5.0

Normal, IL
  • Up to 175 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $7,000

An area once reserved solely for the practical application of aging beers, and on occasion for private beer dinners, we opened up this space for guests to host private events such as ceremonies, receptions, showers & rehearsal dinners. Located within DESTIHL Brewery, the Barrel Room is where you’ll find something unique. Our modern-industrial space is perfect for the craft beer experience, a place where you’ll be greeted with our warm hospitality, and an experience unlike any other in Central Illinois.

Destihl has always had a special place in my heart, but my husband and I were blown away by how perfect it was for our wedding venue. It was the perfect mix of relaxed/elegant, and we had so much fun. Our reception was in the barrel room, which is beautiful and full of character on its own. We appreciated that the food options were very similar to Destihl's restaurant/brewery menus and made with the same care and attention to detail. As craft beer lovers, we were really excited to have a large selection of Destihl’s own beer for guests, but also wine and spirit options as well. We received compliments all night about how unique and delicious the food and drinks were. By far my favorite part of our wedding at Destihl was the staff. They approached our wedding with so much professionalism and hospitality. Amanda, the event manager, was organized and on top of everything. She was incredibly responsive and even reached out at certain time points to check-in and make sure all my questions were answered. Destihl uses an online portal to track everything, which was extremely helpful during planning with all the wedding logistics and vendors. Everyone was so attentive and helpful, which made for a great experience. I feel very lucky to have had our wedding here.
